GBP/USD could rise to 1.33 if there is a Brexit breakthrough before a slated speech from BoE Governor Mark Carney at the end of next week.
Carney is due to speak at the Economic Club of New York on Friday Oct.
19 (at 1530GMT), a day after a European Union summit in Brussels.
Cable rose to a 10-week high just shy of 1.33 on the day of the last EU summit in Salzburg (Sept 20).
A day later, it suffered its biggest down day since June 2017, courtesy of an "impasse" in Brexit talks following the summit.
GBP/USD rose two cents from 1.2922 on Thursday-Friday last week on hope that a Brexit deal might soon be agreed nL8N1WL0WQ.
If a Brexit deal is agreed next week or next month, it could open the door to another BoE rate rise as early as February -- before Britain's scheduled EU exit.
Carney could provide forward guidance as to this probability in his New York speech, depending on Brexit events ahead.
