EUR/USD - As EU Moves Into Trump's Tariff Sights, EUR/USD 1.00 Looms

By Robert Howard  —  Feb 03 - 03:45 AM

Feb 3 (Reuters) - The probability of EUR/USD dropping to 1.00 for the first time since 2022 is rising as the European Union moves into U.S. President Donald Trump's sights after his imposition of tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China.

On Sunday, Trump said tariffs on the EU would go ahead, but did not say when.

"It will definitely happen with the European Union. I can tell you that because they've really taken advantage of us," Trump told reporters. "They don't take our cars, they don't take our farm products. They take almost nothing and we take everything from them."

EUR/USD sank to 1.0125 on Monday, its lowest EBS level since November 2022, as the safe-haven dollar jumped after Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Mexican and most Canadian imports, and 10% on goods from China.

EU leaders will discuss how to handle Trump when they meet in Brussels on Monday.
